New Book: Royal Collections – Great Britain

Our newest book, ROYAL COLLECTIONS,Volume I: Great Britain, is now listed on AMAZON.

It begins selling on Friday, April 1, 2016 – no joke!

The second book is the fist volume in what I expect will be a series that will take us several years to complete…The Eurohistory Archive has somewhere around 400,000 images of royalty from 1850-Present. To better share them, I came up with the idea of a photo book series, each volume covering one or more kingdoms. The first is dedicated to Great Britain and has the following chapters:

As our costs have increased and we have put together such an impressive list of speakers, the fee for 2016 will be £125.00 or $200.00 per person.

Cancellations are only allowed up until March 1. Any cancellation after that date, forfeits the attendance unless medical reasons are involved. In this case, we would address such a matter on an individual basis.

Both the Grants and Hoogstraten will join Katrina Warne in offering amazing items to us all. Katrina will be, as last year, in charge of selling Eurohistory’s stock, while Hoogstraten English Bookstore will bring an even larger selection of titles to entice you all!

The Grants, certainly, will tempt us with many wonderful little jewels!

As was the case last year, we have chosen the Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Hotel just across the street. The rate granted to us, inclusive of breakfast, is £169.00. RESERVATIONS must be made through us, but the guests pays the hotel directly.,

New Book: From Tyranny to Freedom – Memoirs of Countess Viktoria-Luise of Solms-Baruth (former Princess Friedrich Josias of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha)

It is with much delight that we announce the publication of our 23rd book: From Tyranny to Freedom: The Memoirs of Countess Viktoria-Luise of Solms-Baruth, Former Princess Friedrich Josias of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Mrs. Richard C. B. Whitten).

From Freedom to Tyranny - "Memoirs of My Life" comprise the reminiscences of Countess Viktoria-Luise of Solms-Baruth, the first wife of Prince Friedrich Josias, youngest son and heir of Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She was, quite likely, the first German female of royal lineage to marry an American officer, Captain Richard "Dick" Whitten, whom she met early in 1947. Their love affair seemed like a whirlwind and by November the couple joined their destinies and settled down to a long marriage. Viktoria-Luise was an amazing woman. 

Independent-minded, strong-willed, never easily defeated, she sought to rebuild her life on her own terms, while always keeping in mind the needs of her son, who stood to inherit the sizable legacy of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She grasped that life had changed for those in her milieu and sought to make the best of it. She fell in love with an US Army Captain, an attractive man who promised to take her on a new adventure in a faraway land. Viktoria-Luise jumped head-in, seized the moment, and built a new life. 

As with everything she tackled, she was thoroughly successful. Her unique position, provided by background and connections, makes her story even more appealing. Raised in a fairly conventional and old-world environment, she embraced love outside her circle and built a life not only in a new country, but also in a faraway continent. The memoirs provide a candid, detailed and eye-opening window into a world of privilege now gone. They are tribute to a human being who in spite of losing nearly all, rose from the ashes of a destroyed Europe to live a happy, admirable and fulfilled existence.

Handsomely illustrated with 80 rare photographs, most from the late author's private albums, this unique memoir provides the reader with a window into the rarefied world of German royalty and aristocrat during the interwar years!
